I was fortunate enough to take care of Jenn and be her friend. She was an amazing woman and touched so many lives in such a positive way! Her legacy will carry on forever in so many peoples lives as she brought so much happiness and courage to so many people. Even though she was in a wheel chair, that did not stop her! She hiked, sun bathed, went to Bronco games, Concerts & movies. RIP Jenn, as I am sure you are in heaven gracing them with your entire beautiful presence! Derek, Deb & Family I wish you peace and comfort! Sincere prayers and thoughts your way! Peace & Love April Merritt

Jennifer is not dreaming anymore. She is running and jumping with Jesus for all eternity!
I moved out of my house when I was 16. At times it was hard for me to find places to live. In 2001, I lived in Parker, Colorado. I was 17 years old. Jen Sefcovic, Michelle Howard Bates, and Debra (Jen’s mom) placed an ad in the local newspaper stating that they were renting out a room. The amount of the rent was reasonable and the location was perfect.
I remember calling and speaking with Michelle Howard Bates (who worked with Jen to manage her caregivers) over the phone and telling her my age and situation. Michelle told me about Jenn of course and was happy to meet with me. I could tell that they were reluctant to meet with me due to my age, which I totally understood. However, they took a chance on me and I am forever grateful because I had the opportunity to meet Jen Sefcovic. We became lifelong friends from that point on and shared many wonderful memories. I grew to love Jen as a friend and she grew to love me. The last words we said to each other January 7th, 2017 was, “I love you and see you next time.” Thankful she had the opportunity to meet wife on the same day.
I was not a "normal" 17-year-old and Jenn was not a "normal" person (in a good way of course). Jen saw me beyond my age, and I saw her for who she was on the inside. Over the next year is when we became friends. We hung out at her house, watched movies at home and went to see movies, ate together, and laughed hard. I had the opportunity to become a part-time caregiver for Jen (yes, when I was 17). I use to take her to church with me on Sunday nights, we went grocery shopping, cooked, went to a Denver Broncos football game, and even went swimming.
One of my favorite memories with Jenn in 2001, was when we went swimming together at her community pool. I would carry Jenn to the deep end of the pool and then throw her as far as I could into the pool She would sink like a rock. Immediately, I would go underwater and get her and bring her to the top. She would laugh so hard when she came up and so would I. I will never forget the joy that Jen had in her life despite her physical limitations. She lived her life and loved others around her in the process, including me!
Time passed and I moved out, but Jenn and I always remained friends. My sister Michelle ended up moving in with Jenn a few years later.
I moved from Colorado to Texas, but anytime I would come back to Colorado I would always go out of my way to see Jenn because of how much she meant to me.
In 2010, I went through a divorce. I went back to Colorado, September of 2010. This time period of my life was hard, but I was always thankful I was able to go “home” and see my friends before I moved to Tennessee. During my time in Colorado, in 2010 I took Jenn to the mountains. All the pictures below (except the swimming picture) is from 9/24/2010. We had such a good day together. I will not even write about our day because you can see the JOY on our faces in the pictures below. She was so happy to get out of town that day!
I told her that next time I came to Colorado I would take her to Six Flags and would take her on the roller coaster called the “Mind Eraser.” She always wanted to do that!
I did not see Jenn again until January 7th, 2017. This was when my wife had the opportunity to meet her. It was also my last time to see her. Jenn was not in a condition where I could have taken her on the Mind Eraser on the day that I saw her. She knew who I was when I saw her, I could tell by the look in her eyes. However, even though I did not know how she was doing medically at the time, I knew she was going through more physically than I had ever seen her. She told me to come close to her face and she whispered, “I love you” to the best of her ability.
Jenn has always impressed me and everyone that knows her. She taught me so much in the way that she lived her life. She took college classes and went to the local police Academies to work with the kids. I had the opportunity to go with her on a few occasions. I have many good memories with Jen that I will always remember. Her life was harder than I could ever imagine. I did not know her prior to 2001. However, I am thankful for her willingness to serve our country and to not give up living her life
The link below will tell you more about Jen and the journey before her medical event that changed her life forever. What the article does not tell you is the type of woman she was and the beautiful life she lived in spite of her physical limitations.
Jen is a beautiful person that I will always admire, respect, and love!
Thank you, Jen, for LIVING your life in a way that was a LIGHT to me and everyone around you!
Jen has a new body now and I can’t imagine how happy she is!
Love you, Jen! Until we meet again!
2 Corinthians 5:1-5
For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this tent we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling, if indeed by putting it on we may not be found naked. For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened—not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit
