Obituary of Jacqueline "Jackie" Meta Moorhead

Jackie Moorhead, after a long battle with pacreatic cancer, passed away November 21, 2019.

She is survived by her husband, Derrol Moorhead Sr., four children, Derrol Jr., Krista (Phibbs), David and Daniel, 12 grandchildren, one great-grandson, and her brother, John Guss.

Born in New York City on October 28, 1944, she moved to Colorado in 1948, graduated from Aurora Central High School and lived most of her life in Aurora, CO.  Upon her entry to Heaven, she was surrounded by family and accompanied by an army of angels.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to either Porter Hospice, 1391 Speer Blvd., Suite 600, Denver, CO 80204 or Parker Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 9030 Miller Road, Parker, CO 80138, www.pepc.org

Born Jacqueline Meta on October 28, 1944, Jackie as she was known to friends and family,  was escorted to Heaven on November 21, 2019.

Jackie had a most remarkable life although I think she would call it unremarkable. Born to Jack and Sylvia Guss, Jackie moved to Colorado in 1948 from New York.  Her parents settled a few houses down from Ed and Dorothy Hornig (and their family) in Aurora, CO.  The couples became great friends, as did their kids.

Then tragedy struck in 1958, when at the age of 14, Jackie lost Sylvia to a brain tumor.  The Hornigs and other neighbors rallied around Jackie's family, but her dad split the kids up, sending Jackie to live with her aunt in Kentucky, sending her older brother Gary to live with an aunt in California and taking the youngest, John, with him to Florida.

Jackie came back to  Colorado about a year later to find the Hornigs waiting with open arms to welcome her into their family. Never officially adopted, as Jack would not allow that, Jackie became the unofficial fifth Hornig sibling joining older sister Karen, Ed (the same age as Jackie), younger sister Chris and youngest brother Mark. From that point on, and for the rest of her life, she was a Hornig.

She met and married Derrol Moorhead in 1963 starting her family shortly thereafter when Derrol Jr. was born in 1964, followed by Krista in 1966, David in 1970 and Daniel in 1972. She also lost a son, Stephen, in 1968, after three days to a rare condition where his lungs were not fully developed.

Jackie worked on and off throughout her life but was a stay-at-home mom for her kids until they were older. She excelled at being a mom to her four kids and loved nothing more than having her family, which included 12 grandkids and one great-grandson, together for any reason.

Jackie was also the friend that everyone wanted to be with. Funny and kind were the best ways to describe her. She genuinely cared about each and everyone. It was quite apparent to anyone that noticed, that the love of Jesus shown through her.

If there is one thing that everyone should know about Jackie, it's this:  She loved Jesus, she loved her family, she loved her friends and maybe most importantly, she left the world a better place through her kindness and compassion for all.
