Obituary of Margaret Ann Weatherly

Margaret Weatherly passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2019, at the Porter Hospice in Littleton, Colorado. A funeral service, interment, and reception will be on Monday, July 15, 11:00 am, at the Littleton Church of Christ, 6495 S. Colorado Blvd., Centennial, CO, 80121. Margaret Weatherly was born in Dodson, Texas, on August 26, 1932 to Clarence and Virginia (Goode) Holdeman. In her early years she grew up in Booker, Texas where she attended school until her family moved to Wheeler, Texas. She had top grades in her class and graduated with the highest GPA. She married Lloyd Weatherly on July 14, 1950. They had three children – Danny, Donna, and Tammy. Lloyd’s employment took the family to several towns in west Texas. In 1964, when they lived in Plainview, Texas, Margaret entered Wayland Baptist College to begin work on her Bachelor of Arts degree in English – a goal she had dreamt of as a teenager. When Lloyd took a new job in Edmond, Oklahoma, she transferred to Central State College, where she earned her degree in 1968 and graduated magna cum laude. In 1969, the family moved to Littleton, Colorado where she taught for Littleton Public Schools. Her passion was teaching ESL students how to read, and she spent many of her years with the Title I program at Goddard Middle School. As a youngster, she played basketball, softball, and volleyball. Margaret was a huge fan of the local pro sports teams, especially the Broncos and Nuggets, and later, the Rockies. Her most favorite thing to do was support the sports and activities in which her kids and grandkids participated. Maggie was an avid reader. She especially enjoyed reading mysteries and historical novels. As long as she was able, she read 2 or 3 books a week. She was a good listener. If you had an opinion that was different than hers she would listen and ask questions. She taught her kids to listen and told them it was wise to listen to people irrespective of how they talked or dressed. She believed everyone had a good story to tell. She was right. Margaret was a member of the Littleton Church of Christ for 50 years. She loved the church and had a strong social circle of friends there. Through the years, her faith deepened with daily Bible reading and study. Her scholarship of the Bible led her to teach several sessions of the Littleton Church of Christ Ladies Class. She is predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Lloyd Weatherly, her grandson Julian Salvador Gonzales, her granddaughter Colleen Weatherly, and her brother, Bob Holdeman. She is survived by her children, Dan Weatherly, Donna Gonzales (Julian), Tammy Weatherly (Deb Hubbard), and her grandchildren, Leah Gonzales, Kyle Weatherly, and Connor Weatherly, her sisters Gail Parsley and Audrey Jo Atherton (Jim), and sister-in-law Dorothy Holdeman. If you wish to donate in her name, the family asks that you give to the Alzheimer’s Association. You may donate online at: ALZ.org
