Obituary of Christine Lesley Scott

How lucky we are to have had something that makes saying goodbye so hard…. from Winnie the Pooh Christine Lesley Scott, 71, of Parker, Colorado, passed away on December 26, 2016, at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colorado, after a very brief illness and complications from emergency surgery. Chris was born on October 5, 1945 in Aberystwyth, Wales, Great Britain, to Cynthia (Mitchell Weldon) and Robert Roth. Her parents took her to the United States when she was only six months old, as their time in both the British Army (Cynthia) and United States Army (Robert) was complete due to the end of World War II. Chris grew up in Columbus, Ohio and graduated from Linden-McKinley High School in 1963. She was active in swimming, the Girl Scouts of America, and was President of the French Club. She then attended Ohio State University and the University of Toledo, earning a dual major in Sociology and Anthropology. In 1965, Chris met the love of her life and future husband, Ronald James (Szymanowski) Scott, while working at the Lazarus department store in Columbus, Ohio. They were married on August 20, 1966 and moved to Toledo, Ohio to start their married life. They welcomed two daughters- Cynthia Ann in 1967 and Laura Catherine in 1968. They moved to Kansas City, Missouri for several years, and then built their dream home in Parker, Colorado where she resided until her death. Chris was primarily a homemaker and her children were blessed to always have her at home while they were growing up. She also spent many hours supporting her husband when he started his own company- Scott Dental Company. After the premature death of her husband in 1991, Chris began to put her incredible talents and vision in the fiber arts to work, and shared her passion for quilting, knitting, and jewelry making with countless people. She worked at the Great American Quilt Factory in Denver for many years- teaching, writing quilt patterns, editing publications, buying fabric, and creating art work for her family and others to enjoy. She won several awards for her work and was featured in quilting magazines. Besides her artistic work, Chris was an avid reader, had a great passion for indoor and outdoor gardening, and loved British TV shows. She had been working for many years on the geneology of not only her family, but of her husbands as well. She was very excited each time, she discovered something new about her ancestors that filled in another “piece of the puzzle”. More than anything, Chris adored her family- her daughters and grandchildren. Through good times and bad, she was the rock that held the family together and the person we all wanted to emulate. Her grace in accepting widowhood so young, her strength in “moving on” despite such unbearable loss, and her ability to always be there when needed; makes her sudden loss devastating for her family. Chris is survived by her daughters- Cynthia Scott-Carter (of Fort Collins, Colorado) and Laura Scott-Alvarez (of Fort Collins, Colorado); her grandchildren- Devin Carter, Olivia Carter, Ethan Carter, and Melissa Alvarez; her sister- Cathryn (Michael) Dini (of Highlands Ranch, Colorado); her brother-in-law- Paul (Sue) Szymanowski (of Las Vegas, Nevada); a niece- Ruthann Szymanowski (of Las Vegas, Nevada); a nephew- Christopher Dini (of Seattle, Washington); and many extended family and friends in the United States and Great Britain. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ronald James Scott; her parents, Cynthia and Robert Roth; and several aunts and uncles. The family suggests that memorial donations in Chris’s memory be made to: Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum, 200 Violet Street, Unit 140, Golden, Colorado 80401 or www.rmqm.org . She was passionate about the mission of this museum which is to collect, preserve, exhibit, and educate the public about quilts; honor quilt making traditions; and embrace the evolution of the art and craft of quilting. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 6, 2017 at 10 AM at Ponderosa Valley Funeral Services in Parker, Colorado. Cremation was chosen. Interment of her remains will be at a later date, at the gravesite of her late husband at the Parker Cemetery. Service Information
