Obituary
Obituary of Claire Leraan Brown
Claire Leraan Brown, 83, of Bow Mar, surrounded by her loving family, passed away on the 19th of November, 2016, having been diagnosed with cancer 3 months earlier. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Thomas G. Brown, and their children, Stephen (Linda) Brown, Kristin (Boris) Vukovich and Andrea (Rich) Brown. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren, with one more on the way.
Claire was born in Superior, Wisconsin and raised in Duluth, Minnesota. She moved to Colorado in 1952 to attend the University of Colorado. During her first week of school, she met Tom at The Sink restaurant on the Hill in Boulder. She was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority at CU and graduated with a degree in psychology. She and Tom raised their family in Littleton, Colorado, a location that appealed to this Minnesota girl largely because she could keep her canoe at Bow Mar Lake. Her Northwoods upbringing led the family to acquire a cabin in Frisco, CO, near Lake Dillon, where she kept her second canoe. She served her community by performing endless hours of volunteer work, first as a probation officer and then for over forty years as a Docent at the Denver Art Museum. Claire was a lover of music and often played the piano and even played the violin for a short time with the Aurora Symphony. She also enjoyed writing, especially limericks, and together with two other ladies, published a book entitled, Views From Jackass Hill, an eclectic collection of prose and poems. She was an avid gardener and was enthusiastic for all things Norwegian. Her greatest love was for her family, for whom she provided inspiration, laughter and encouragement. She taught them how to live life to its fullest, and did so by example right up to the end.
Her celebration of life service will be held in the Chapel at Cherry Hills Community Church on Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations may be made to the Denver Rescue Mission, Porter Hospice or Denver Hospice.
