Obituary of Lorraine H. Gorham

Lorraine H. Gorham, 56, of Denver, entered peacefully into the arms of Jesus on September 27, 2016, after a brave and strong battle against Early Onset Alzheimer’s disease. She was attended by the wonderful care of Northglenn Assisted Living Facility and Agape Hospice. Lorraine’s brain has been donated for scientific research to the Mayo Clinic through the Brain Support Network, to assist in finding a cure for the disease that took her from this earth far too soon. Her remains will be cremated, and her ashes spread by her loving family throughout the globe, allowing her the opportunity to travel to and live on in all the places she wanted to go, including Scotland. Lorraine was born on April 8, 1960 at Saint Anthony’s Central in Denver, CO, the firstborn daughter to Alice and the late George Workman of Westminster, CO. She was the loving Wife of 36 years to Rick Gorham, married on August 2, 1980 at Rockland Community Church in Genesee, CO, and the fiercely proud Mother to her three children – Helene (Edwin) Rodriguez of Monroe, WA, Christopher (Abby) Gorham of Denver, CO, and Mariah Gorham of Denver, CO. Lorraine was the beloved Grandmother of Harper and Greyson Gorham, both of Denver, CO, and to an expected Granddaughter in early October 2016. She was the sister of Kelly (Larry) Workman-Flood of Golden, CO and Gregg Workman of Westminster, CO. She was the daughter-in-law of Virginia and Harry Gorham of Broomfield, CO, and is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Lorraine worked for Bello Credit Union for many years, but she found true purpose and joy working as a paraprofessional for special needs children for Denver Public Schools. Even after the disease forced her to stop working, she loved going to read to the kids until she was no longer able, always greeted by huge smiles and hugs from each of them. Lorraine also loved working for the schools because it allowed her the opportunity to have the summers off with her family, which were quite often spent going on day rides through the mountains or camping and enjoying the outdoors. Lorraine loved spending time in nature, enjoying its beauty and majesty, and if she wasn’t staring into the flames of a campfire, she could often be found quietly watching birds, especially the hummingbirds. Lorraine was an avid reader, and you could always count on a book being in her possession at any given time. Anyone who knew her knew that if she wasn’t in the mountains, she would much rather be in a quiet library than in a noisy, crowded room any day. Lorraine was also very involved with her church, and whenever possible, volunteering for Vacation Bible School in the summers and working with the children’s programs throughout the rest of the year. She loved sharing the love of Jesus with the kids, and she loved singing about Him even more. She stood and sang out with her beautiful voice to every song they sang in church, regardless of whether anyone else was standing. If it wasn’t church hymns she was singing, it was usually a John Denver song, but you could never rule out the likes of Dan Fogelberg or Fleetwood Mac. So the next time that you see a hummingbird drinking their sweet nectar, or find yourself in a quiet library, or hear an old church hymn or John Denver song, close your eyes, take a deep breath and fondly remember Lorraine – a lover of all things beautiful and bright, champion to her family, and an angel on earth and now in Heaven. A Celebration of Lorraine's Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2016, at Wellspring Church, 4300 S. Lincoln Street, Englewood, Colorado 80113.
