Obituary of Thomas W. Spooner

On the morning of February 5, 2016 Thomas "Tom" W. Spooner, Jr. passed away peacefully at Craig Hospital in Englewood, Colorado. Tom suffered a traumatic brain injury in September and spent the past 6 months in and out of the ICU and Craig with the determination to rehab and get back to the things he loved to do. Unfortunately, Tom had an underlying bone marrow disease called myleofibrosis. His disease had been stable, but the injury and continued stress on his body caused it to quickly progress into the leukemia that ultimately took his life. Tom was 68 years young. He spent these past months working as hard as he could to get better. He always had a good attitude and respected those who worked with him and took care of him. His wife, Linda, and daughter, Ashley were with him everyday to support his rehab. He passed away surrounded by his family knowing that he did everything possible to get better and it was just a horrible disease that took the body of a man who's mind was very much alive and ready to get back to it. Tom was born in South Bend ,Indiana on May 25, 1947. He moved to Colorado at the age of 3. He was the only son of Thomas W. Sr. and Alice Spooner and is survived by his wife, Linda and daughter, Ashley, two sisters, a step brother, and step sister. Tom was founder and owner of Voltek Import Service, Inc. for 30 years. He sold his business and retired in 2012. Tom lived in the Westminster area for over 30 years and recently moved to Parker, CO so he and his wife, Linda could be closer to their daughter, Ashley, a dentist in Highlands Ranch. They had just finished remodeling the home they recently moved into. He was real excited about his new riding mower and very proud of his work in his yard. He was always known as the handy man and friends and neighbors alike would always come to Tom for fix-it help. Tom was so very pleased to welcome Ashley's fiance, Jim, into the family. Tom was a very caring and compassionate man. He was always willing to give a hand to anyone that asked. He loved to tinker in his garage and be outside. He was an expert skier, motorcycle rider, bike rider, hiker and anything that kept him outside. He loved taking his dog, Zoie, on walks in the mountains and in the wooded area near his new home in Parker. Tom was a very special man that touched many lives. We have all learned what it means to be a kind, generous, respectful, and genuine person from Tom. We are better people for knowing him and he will never be forgotten. Hello everyone. First of all, my Mom and I cannot thank all of you enough for your outpouring support through food, visits, cards, calls, and simply staying in touch. This transition is very difficult and we miss Dad every minute of every day. With that being said, we are ready to Celebrate his life and we hope you all can join us. This will be a time of stories, pictures, laughter, and tears. We want to throw a party just as Dad would like.
