Obituary of Bruce A. Miller

Bruce A. Miller, 53, of Parker, lost a long and courageous battle with kidney cancer on March 22, 2013. He passed peacefully at home with his family by his side. Bruce was born on January 17, 1960 in Lemmon, South Dakota, to Johnny and Florence (Zentner) Miller. He graduated from Northern State College in 1980. On June 5, 1982, he married Danette Ham at Calvary Lutheran Church in Lemmon, South Dakota. Bruce worked in the energy industry for 28 years, most recently as the Director of Coal Origination for Enserco Energy. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, golfing, and riding his Harley. Bruce's many friends found him to be quick with a joke, quick with a laugh, and quick to brighten everyone's day. Bruce is survived by his wife, Danette, children Heather (of Parker), Sabra (of Lincoln, Nebraska) and Cory (of Parker), future son-in-law, Adam Peetz (of Sidney, Nebraska), his mother, Florence (of Rapid City, South Dakota), his brother, Steve (Barb) Miller, sister, Roxanne (Gary) Holzer (both of Rapid City, South Dakota) and Bruce's hunting companions, Sage and Misty. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Martina Ham (of Shadehill, South Dakota), sisters-in-law Dianne (Wayne) Kunz (of Dickinson, North Dakota), Debbie (Pat) Nehl (of Watauga, South Dakota), Dawn (Doug) Hewitt (of Miamisburg, Ohio), and one brother-in-law, Doug (Linda) Ham (of Lemmon, South Dakota), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bruce is preceded in death by his father, John Miller, father-in-law, Don Ham, brother-in-law, David Ham, and his niece Jeanna Nehl. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, 1:00 p.m. at Ave Maria Catholic Church, 9056 E. Parker Road in Parker. The family will make memorial donations to the Kidney Cancer Association and Pheasants Forever of Lemmon, South Dakota. An additional Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013, 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church followed by burial at Greenhill Cemetery, both in Lemmon, South Dakota.
