Obituary of Kathleen Mary Polnar

Kathleen Mary (Halligan) Polnar, 63, passed away peacefully at home on November 24th, Thanksgiving Day, with her family by her side. She was the wife of Walter Polnar, Jr. of Parker, CO. She was born on August 28, 1948, the daughter of William and Connie Halligan. She lived in Wallingford, CT, for most of her life before moving with her husband to Parker, CO in 2006. Kathy was a wonderful wife, a selfless mother and a loving and caring Nana. She was a voracious reader with broad interests who loved the mountains, music and good restaurants. She especially enjoyed the laughter, banter and wisecracks as her family gathered each Sunday afternoon for dinner. Kathy was active in many civic and fraternal organizations, she previously served as a member of the Board of Directors of Wallingford Center, Inc., taught religious instruction, was a Girl Scout Leader and for many years a staunch advocate for Relay for Life. She was employed by Cytec Industries in Wallingford for many years and later a partner in Omar's Tents, Events and Catering. In Colorado, she worked at MedInsights in administrative positions. Kathy is also survived by her daughter, Wendy Holbrook West and her husband, Chuck, her loving grandchildren, Andrew, Sarah, Gregory, James and Rachel, all of Parker, CO; brother, Michael (Brenda) Halligan of Terryville CT; sister, Peggy (Jeff) Young of Wallingford, CT; sister, Cornelia (Rick) Mislick of Wallingford, CT; brother, Jack (Stacey) Halligan of Cromwell, CT; and sister, Alice Clodfelter of Wallingford, CT. She was predeceased by a brother, Brian Halligan. She leaves several nieces and nephews and many devoted friends in both Connecticut and Colorado. Her family wishes to thank all at Rocky Mountain Cancer Center for their compassionate care in her courageous and lengthy battle with cancer, the very special staff at The Denver Hospice and everyone at Spirit of Hope Lutheran Church for their love and support. Her funeral will be entrusted to Ponderosa Valley Funeral Services, 10470 S. Progress Way, Parker, CO 80134, 303-841-2405, www.ponderosavalleyfunerals.com and will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Parker Evangelical Presbyterian Church (PEPC), 9030 Miller Rd., Parker, CO at 3 PM.
