Obituary of Glenn Byron Whaley

Glenn Byron Whaley 60 of Colorado Springs passed away peacefully in his home on December 28, 2019. Glenn was born on July 4, 1959 in Soda Springs, Idaho to Shelby Lynn Whaley and Denise Ream Whaley and was the 2nd of 5 siblings. Glenn learned to love the outdoors from his father, and enjoyed hunting, camping and shooting. In junior high and high school, Glenn participated in swimming, cross country, and football.

Glenn received a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Utah and went on to receive his Juris Doctorate from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University.

Glenn was a loving husband of 23 years to his eternal companion, Elizabeth (Liz) Maria Silva, to whom he was sealed in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple in American Fork, Utah on December 5, 1998. He felt so blessed to be the father of Mitchell Whaley, who brought great joy and purpose to his life. Glenn enjoyed spending holidays with his family on his sister’s property, fishing, shooting and teaching his son and his nephews and nieces to drive. Glenn also liked to drive and took his family on long road trips.

Glenn really enjoyed owning his own home. He designed the back yard and did the landscaping himself. He liked to make changes and improvements to the house and surprise Liz and Mitchell when they would come home from trips. He also enjoyed being outside and grilling steaks for his family.

Glenn was a faithful and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In the last few years of his life it became difficult for him to attend services. He appreciated visits from church members, and the opportunity to receive the Sacrament in his home.

Glenn is truly loved by his family and will be sorely missed. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; his son, Mitchell; his mother, Denise; his siblings: Melanie (Rock) Bastian, Kevin (Julee) Whaley, Brad (Suzy) Whaley, and Gregg Whaley; and numerous nieces and nephews. Glenn was preceded in death by his father, Shelby Whaley, father-in-law, Jose Bonifacio da Silva, brother-in-law, Rock Bastian and nephew Lane Bastian.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1705 N. Murray Boulevard in Colorado Springs, with a viewing prior to the services at the church from 12:30 to 1:45 pm.

Burial will take place at the Orem City Cemetery in Orem, Utah on Saturday, January 4 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions can be made to Mitchell Whaley’s college fund.  https://www.gofundme.com/f/mitchell-whaley-college-fund
