Kathleen Mullan

Obituary of Kathleen Marie Mullan

Kathleen (“Kay”) Mullan was born July 24, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York. She was one of four children born to Winifred and Thomas Serridge. She often remarked how blessed she was to come from such a happy and loving family.  Due to her radiant beauty—both inside and out—Kay sparked interest in many potential suitors. Kay married the luckiest of these admirers, Raymond Mullan. She then spent the next half-century or so molding Ray into a successful businessman and a respectable father and grandfather. In the meantime, Kay enjoyed her own exciting stint on Wall Street, raised four children, and coordinated family moves from New York to Pennsylvania to Colorado, back to New York and then, finally, back to Colorado.

Kay left a mark on each of these places; making and keeping close friends came easily to her, and she pursued her friendships until the very end. After Ray passed, Kay spent much of her time serving others as a Martha at Ave Maria Catholic Church, helping a family member care for a spouse in late stages of multiple sclerosis, and spoiling her many grandchildren. Devoted to her Catholic faith, Kay was also a steadfast member of the Ave Maria Rosary group.  Kay was accomplished in gab and at baking chocolate cream pies. Along with her sisters, Eileen (passed) and Winnie, Kay acted as a matriarch of a family in which “everyone gets along.” She was proud of that, and however much time you might have was as much time as she would take to tell you as much! Toward the end, Kay did have a few issues with her memory. But, Kay never lost her commitment to each member of her family, her sense of humor, her faith, or her ability to make everyone she met feel welcomed and loved.

Kay is survived by her sister Winnie (93 years young); four grateful children (& and their spouses)—Joe (& Patty), Kathy (& Dave), Alice (& Hank), and Peter (& Betsy); ten marvelous grandchildren—Megan, Bill, Kevin, David, Benjamin, Ryan, Jackson, Kellie, Sarah, and Anna; a promising and growing flock of great-grandchildren; and numerous dear nieces and nephews.
