Miss Mitchell called me into her office when I was a sophomore. I was in a math class of some kind and she looked me in the eye and told me to never take another math class but to stick with art, because it is what I know. No one had said anything like that to me before. She cared.

Mrs Mitchell was the best counselor. When we were talking about college, she said to me, “why do you even want to go to college? You don’t even attend high school. “ (I cut at least 1 class every day) I told her I didn’t really want too, because I wanted to get married. She “got” that, and also understood that my parents really wanted me in college. I only applied to one, was accepted and always loved her for her sage advice!
