Obituary of Cheryl Lynn Schauer

Cheryl “Cheri” Schauer, 69, of Parker, CO was taken home on December 29, 2021.

She was the beloved wife of Stephen and devoted mother of Joshua (Tracie) Schauer, Sara (Shawn) Ramsey and Jonathan Schauer. She was the fun loving and cherished grandma of Cody, Ty, Caleb, Jacob, Elijah, Mia, Aaliyah and Jadon. She was the loving sister to Bruce (Kymbella) Johnson and Barry (Jan) Johnson and aunt to Courtney (Andy) Bremer, Kyle (Sara) Johnson and Emily (Matt) Bridges.

Born on September 12, 1952 in Denver and raised in Englewood, Cheri was a devoted daughter. She loved spending time with her parents Barbara and Conrad Johnson throughout their lives and was instrumental, along with her brothers, in helping both parents live out the last years of their lives with dignity and joy. She was also a devoted daughter-in-law and embraced Stephen’s parents as her own. Cheri thought the world of her brothers, despite enduring countless pranks and teasing. Her love for them was constant over the years.

Cheri graduated from Englewood Highschool in 1970 and one year later married Stephen on July 2, 1971. She would spend the next 50 years as a loving, devoted and faithful wife. She and Stephen spent many nights bowling together and she delighted in beating him quite often. They played coed softball together for years until she finally caught a fly ball and got a hit. She decided to hang up her glove and go out on top. In those early years, she enjoyed her job as a key punch operator until her treasured role of mom began.

Cheri absolutely loved being a mom! She spent countless hours at various sporting events, cheering from the sidelines, keeping score, and even coaching softball when nobody else would step up. She played video games, watched Friday night movies, played cards, always putting the kids first. She was a counselor and friend to them.

The only role she might have loved more than being a mom was being Grandma Cheri. She cherished each grandkid and spent as much time with them as she could. For years she had weekly sleepovers. Taking turns, they would each have a night to come stay with her. Many of those times were spent on the floor playing Legos. Once again, she found herself in the role of sports fan, attending as many of the grandkids sporting events as she could.

Cheri adored babies. As a young adult she developed a passion for the pro-life movement. Her desire to help women facing unplanned pregnancies led her to donate hours and resources to those women through Alternatives Pregnancy Center. She also became a foster mother to newborn babies waiting for placement with adoptive parents, bringing them into her home and loving them for a short time.

As her own grandchildren outgrew the baby stage she volunteered weekly at Southeast Christian Church caring for others’ babies. She had a gift when it came to getting them to sleep and she developed a bond with many of them until they graduated to older classes.

Cheri loved her large, extended family: aunts, uncles, cousins. They held a dear place in her heart, and she went out of her way to maintain those relationships: planning lunches, making phone calls, celebrating New Year’s with them, sending out prayer requests and organizing family reunions.

Always more of a home body, Cheri was a reluctant traveler. Once away, she enjoyed seeing places. But even more so, she enjoyed the people she traveled with. During yearly trips to Lake Powell, frequent cruises, and other trips she created countless memories with close friends and family.

Cheri loved people. She had such a servant’s heart and would drop everything to spend time with them. She gave freely of her time and resources, sometimes even to strangers at the store. This love was born from her love for Jesus. Her faith in Christ was the bedrock of her life. The joy she spread will be greatly missed by so many.
