Obituary of Lisa Kathleen Palmer Mekelburg

Lisa was born on July 24, 1964, in Susanville, California, and raised in Colorado. She attended Cherry Creek High School and received her BS degree in education at Colorado State University. She later earned a Master's Degree in Literacy Curriculum from Lesley University.

In 2006, Lisa married Kenneth Mekelburg. They made their home with their beloved companion and dog Teddy in Douglas County, CO. Lisa touched the lives of numerous students and families for 6 years at Willows School and for 25 years at Pine Grove Elementary School in Parker during her 31 years in elementary education. Lisa was a trusted and much-loved teacher who modeled acceptance and understanding and saw the potential in each one of her students. She brought energy and an environment of trust to the classroom which cultivated a love of learning in countless young minds.

Lisa is survived by her husband Ken, her parents Bill and Waynette Palmer of Logan, Kansas, her brother and sister-in-law Ron and June Palmer of Glendale, Arizona; her nephews Sam and Paul Palmer, and her niece Rachael Ellington, and her two children Corbin and Hadley Ellington.

Lisa was a woman of deep faith who touched many lives through her fellowships, friendships, and teaching. She was a member of the Parker Hills Bible Fellowship Church. A funeral service will be held at her church, located at 7137 Parker Hills Ct in Parker, at 1:00 pm on Monday, January 17, 2022.

Lisa’s love, compassion, humor, grace, faith, and strength will be greatly missed by her family, dear friends, and students who adored her. In her final days, Lisa was deeply saddened for the Marshall Wildfire victims in Boulder County. Please direct any donations to the Boulder County Wildfire Fund.

The family politely asks that if you are ill or showing symptoms of becoming ill that you please refrain from attending the service.

“You have taught me to have compassion, acceptance, grace, and humor that I embrace each day in and out of the classroom. Your calmness, classroom management, consistency and love for each child is what sets you apart from other teachers.”
