Obituary of Joann Bertha Smith

Joann Bertha Smith, 89, of Merino, Colorado. 

Wife of late Russell Smith. Mother of Rusty (Sherry) Smith of Merino, CO and Rick (Karen) Smith of Parker, CO, and the late Ronnie Smith.  Also survived by her grandchildren, Mic (Tiffany) Watson, Jenny (Chad) Blair, Cody (Heidi) Smith, Tim (Sam) Boyer, Cassi Smith, great-grandchildren, Kelsey (Brandon) Webb, Kristy (Justin) Klebba, Ty Blair, Seth Watson, Maxx and Zoey Boyer, and Adley Smith, great-great grandchildren, Hazelynn Blair, Evie Jo Klebba, Jaxson and Jace Webb. Joann was preceded in death by her husband Russell, son, Ronald Smith, parents, Arvid and Lauretta Johnson (Yates), and siblings, Shirley Wallen, Laurence Johnson, and Richard Johnson.

Joann was born April 18th, 1932 in Elizabeth, CO to Arvid and Lauretta (Johnson)  Yates.  On February 15, 1953, she married Russell Smith at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Denver, CO.  She was a homemaker and proudly raised her 3 sons and supported Russell in his military career.  She enjoyed sewing, gardening, painting, being outdoors, RVing, Campground Host, and Square Dancing. She never knew a stranger and she was the go to historian for Parker, CO.

Graveside services will be held at 12pm on Friday, February 4th, 2022 at Parker Cemetery, Parker Colorado. Memorial gathering to follow at the Hilltop School House with a light luncheon; 5711 Flintwood Rd, Parker, CO 80134.

 

There will be a celebration of life later in 2022, TBD.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Joann’s memory to Charity of your Choice.
