Obituary of Olga Amalia Duffy

Olga Amalia Duffy was first a beautiful woman of grace and poise.  She was a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. 

Olga was promoted to heaven on Thursday, February 3, 2022, at the age of 89 years and 5 months after a courageous and faithful battle with bile duct cancer.

She was born to Manuel Angel Flores and Margarita Colon in Guatemala City, Guatemala, on September 4, 1932.  She was the second youngest of five girls and three brothers.  She graduated from University in Guatemala as a teacher.  She married a childhood friend and together they had 2 children, Patsy and Claudi. 

Following the dissolution of her first marriage, and at the direction of her father, Olgita moved to the United States with 2 young daughters, not knowing the language and $25 in her pocket.  This set the course for a life of courageous faith.

On July 9, 1966, Olgita married the most loving man, Leo Thomas Duffy.  Lee preceded Olgita into heaven on December 23, 2010.  Together they had 2 children, Mark, and Tracy.  Olgita and Lee were married over 40 years and together they raised their family in Shawnee, Kansas.

At the age of 83 together with her sister Irma, Olgita made a life changing decision to leave her hometown of Shawnee, Kansas and move to Monument, Colorado to be closer to her son Mark and daughter Patsy.  Determined to press forward and make a home, Olgita quickly made friends in her community, joined Monument Hill Church, a Spanish Women’s Bible study, and enjoyed her independence driving around Monument to shop and extend her welcome to new people she met.  Olgita was a social butterfly who loved people with her whole heart.  She was kind and demonstrated her love of Jesus everywhere she went.  

She lived her life for the Lord Jesus first and even at the age of 89 still loved her children with unwavering and passionate love.  Each of her children were uniquely loved.  She took the time to engage with them each day by phone or as they came to her little house.  She created a ministry of love and legacy by creating her own cards for her family and friends.  She loved her grandchildren, her sisters and brothers and large extended family with a fierce loyalty but tender heart.  She was a woman of grace and integrity.

When she could no longer drive and the current pandemic situation prevented visits with friends, she would still socialize from her little porch and greet neighbors alongside of her sister, Irma.  She stayed busy making cards and writing letters and talking on the phone with family and friends. 

Olgita is preceded into heaven by her husband, the love of her life, Leo Thomas Duffy, her sister Yolanda Falla Flores, brother Charlie Flores, and a baby sister she never knew who died at birth.  She is survived by her children, Patsy and her husband Phil and granddaughter Rachel whom she shared many an afternoon reading and talking about the Lord; her daughter Claudi and her St. Bernard, Bella; her son Mark and his wife Shelley; her daughter Tracy and her husband Cary and grandchildren, CJ, Savannah, and Taylor and their farm friends; her many nephews and nieces and their families;  her sister Irma whom she lived with for the past 20 years and spent the last 8 years living in Monument with and her son; her sister Olympia and her son and daughters and their families; her sister Aura and her husband Erick and their sons and families; her brother Manolo and his wife Elly and their son and daughters and their families, her brother Gustavo and his son and daughter and their families along with their mother Gail.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, February 12, at Monument Hill Church at 11:00 a.m.  The church is located at 18725 Monument Hill Road, Monument, Colorado 80132. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Olga Duffy to further research to the benefit of other cancer victims.
