Obituary of Helen Mae Ward

Helen Mae Ward, born April 2, 1933; died peacefully, March 29, 2022. No formal service is planned. In leu of flowers, please donate to a cause Helen has long been passionate about, helping NICU babies and their families. See https://NICUhelpinghands.org  to donate in memory of Helen Mae Ward.

She is remembered as a bravely independent and loving woman, raising her young children in Arizona while working as a bookkeeper. Once her children were grown, she moved to Florida, working as an accountant for a law office in Cape Canaveral Florida from 1987 to 2008. She enjoyed many years there as a member of the Navy League.

Her love of music was lifelong, and she shared innumerable hours at concerts with her family and friends. She shared her love for music with her grandchildren and great grandchildren as well. She was a remarkable needlework and crochet artist and has shared her work with her large family and many of her friends. She was a devoted ‘Bamma,’ the name her grandchildren and great grandchildren always called her.

She is survived by her three children, Sandra Ann Lloyd, Michael Weston Cooper, and Mickie Lee Edwards. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, and twenty-four great grandchildren who will miss her dearly! Among many ideals her legacy message is,” Sharing with, caring for and loving each other. You always think you have enough time to live fully, but you never do.”

She was an avid reader and leaves us with a quote from a woman who inspired her through the years, Maya Angelo, “When you work, give; when you learn, teach.”

A message our mother loved was, “Choose your path. Enjoy your journey. Your footsteps are forever there for others to follow.”

Helen lived a long, fulfilling, and hardy life. She often said, “Well of course, I must! I am a ‘Ward’ you know.”

Of course, we all knew of her love of butterflies and the color, purple. May she rest in peace.
