Avis Sizemore

Obituary of Avis Sizemore

Avis Ann Sizemore, 85, went to be with the Lord on January 12, 2023, at the Life Care Center of Littleton, CO. Avis was a beloved Mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and she kept the family in touch with one another. She was very proud of her family and their accomplishments.

Avis Ann Martin was born on August 29, 1937, in Wichita, Kansas, an only child, to Edith Marguerite Cline and Lester Francis "Frank" Martin. Avis was baptized on December 30, 1947 at the First Christian Church, Ponca City, Oklahoma. Avis was a lifelong Christian and attended the Crossroads Church in Parker, Colorado.

Avis Ann Martin married Kenneth Wayne Sizemore on November 10, 1953, in Greensburg, Kansas and they resided in Coldwater, Kansas at that time. Kenneth and Avis Sizemore had six children, Lester Martin, James Wayne, Kenneth Leon, Jo Ann, Douglas Scott and Tracy Lynn. Kenneth Leon and Douglas Scott have preceded Avis in death. Avis Ann Sizemore had 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She will be buried in Liberal, Kansas with her husband, Kenneth.

Kenneth and Avis lived in Colorado, Kansas, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska and Oklahoma. Avis attended Jefferson and Lincoln grade schools in Ponca City, Oklahoma. She attended Ponca City Junior High School and John Marshall High School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She enjoyed her relatives, especially her cousins, and staying in touch.

Avis was well known for her arts and crafts skills among family and friends. She enjoyed painting – on canvas, on ceramics and, especially, creating Christmas ornaments. She enjoyed hand making greeting cards with her close friends, her card group in Parker, and her family loved receiving them for use on special occasions. Many family members and friends lovingly place the Christmas decorations that Avis created over the years on their trees each year. Avis was very creative as a writer with her laptop computer, and she used it to communicate with the whole family.

The theologian William Barclay said, “When I die, I should like to slip out of the room without fuss – for what matters is not what I am leaving, but where I am going.” The soul or spirit sheds its earthly body as a tree sheds its leaves, and creates for itself another covering, in another sphere, as the tree grows new leaves. Death is not the end of existence, but merely the cessation of the earthly phase of life. It is a corner we turn to reach a perfect, peaceful spiritual life with God.

In her own words: “Everyone knows that I have perfect children. I have the most amazing daughters-in-law that God ever gave a Mother. And perfect grand and great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. God has been good to me and brought me through many hard times in my life. He walked with me in the shadows and good times. Please remember He will do that for you all too. I love you.”

Mom and Grandmother, we bless your memory with great love for you, for you have written your love upon our hearts. May your memory be a blessing to all who knew you. Amen.
