Obituary of Viola Whitney

Viola V. Whitney, age 87, of Highland Park, IL, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2023.  

Viola Vivian (Grubb) Whitney, was born to Clyde and Celia (Deyarmond) Grubb and raised in Lansing, Michigan.

She met and married her devoted husband of 65 years, Charles Whitney, in 1954. In 1963, when Charles was called to active duty in the United States Army, they began their life of moving around the United States and twice to Germany with 3 children in tow. Charles and Viola spent many weekends leading Prison Fellowship Bible seminars in different prisons. Viola also enjoyed Bible and Torah study, prayer, music, traveling, cooking, sewing, exercising, cake decorating, back packing in the Colorado Rockies, and mentoring other women.

Following her husband’s death in 2020, Viola moved to Highland Park, Illinois.

Viola is survived by her daughter, Linda Sutenbach and husband Paul of Highland Park, IL, son Steve Whitney and wife Kathy of Fraser, CO and son Philip Whitney of Midland, MI. Also 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren that she loved dearly.

Viola is a fervent believer of Jesus as her Lord and Savior and we celebrate and rejoice that she is in His arms today.
