Obituary of Joan I. Edson

Joan Irene Edson of Aurora, Colorado, passed away on August 18, 2023 at the age of 81. She was one of 9 children and born in Wichita, Kansas, to Clara and Hubert Ast.

Joan married the love of her life, Rex, when she was 17 years old and had her first of 8 children when she was 18. She lived in many places with her family; Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, California, and eventually settled in Colorado. Joan spent her entire life devoted to her loving husband, Rex. Together they spent their years enjoying the fruits of having eight children, by sharing memories of camping and fishing up at Red Feathers in their family cabin. Joan was an extremely talented and diverse artist and one who took great pleasure in her crafts and hobbies, such as making porcelain dolls, sewing doll clothes, making rosaries, painting, cross stitching along with numerous other hobbies. In the end, Joan’s greatest triumph was that she raised eight children in the Catholic faith and lived it to its fullest. In April of 2018, she sadly lost her beloved husband.

Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Rex Edson, her daughter, Carina Comb’s, her granddaughter Kimberly, and brother Dwayne Ast. Her surviving children are, Steve Edson (Shannon) of Parker, CO, Greg Edson of Evans, CO, Melanie Davidson (Loring) of S.D., Jeff Edson (Sarah) of Beaverton, OR, Dave Edson (Lisa) of North Plains, OR, Jennifer Edson of NE, and Matt Edson (Kristina) of Winter Springs, FL. She was blessed with 45 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Jean Hein, Jane Blick, Judy (Jim) Graves, and June (Leroy) Anderson, and brothers Ken (Ruby) Ast, Terry (Marianne) Ast, Randy (Kelsey) Ast, and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, August 25, 2023 at Ave Maria Catholic Church 9056 E Parker Rd Parker, CO.  Rosary will be held 30 minutes prior, from 10:30-11:00 am, at the church. Burial will be held in Saint Simeon Catholic Cemetery, 22001 CO-30, Aurora, CO.
