Obituary of Jim E. Trevino

James Edward Trevino 

7/26/1944 - 9/12/2023 

Jim was born in Edinburg, Texas, July 26, 1944 the oldest of six children parented by Rodolfo R Trevino and Henrietta Cardenas Trevino. He grew up helping his father in the family-owned grocery store known as The Valley Store in Edinburg Texas. He graduated from Edinburg High School in 1962 where he participated in many extracurricular activities. He was on the football team, baseball team, and tennis team. Tennis was his passion, bringing home a state championship for Edinburg High School. He also participated in the high school orchestra program where he met his high school sweetheart Roxanna Hoover Trevino who he later to married in 1968.

He attended North Texas State University in Denton, Texas where he received both his bachelors and masters degrees in science and psychology. After completing his education at NTSU Jim and Roxanna moved to Rochester, New York, where he began his career as a bilingual school psychologist.

In 1976 they moved to Denver Colorado where Jim continued his work as a school psychologist with the Denver Public Schools. He later received his administrative certificate and served as principal of an alternative High School, Abraham Lincoln High School, and Horace Mann Junior High School. During those years he served on many district, city, and state committees concentrating on fostering community involvement in the local schools. When he retired from Denver Public Schools, he went on to serve in the Elizabeth School District as the high school principal, chief executive officer, and acting superintendent. He retired from his education career in 2010 and spent his last years traveling with Roxanna and enjoying his grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his mother, father and sister Ruby Elizabeth Trevino. He is survived by his wife, Roxanna Trevino, daughter Jamie Nicole Bond (Brandon Bond) of Floyds Knob IN, son Steven Blake Trevino (Rachel Trevino) of Wheat Ridge CO, and 8 grandchildren - Carter, Emma, Elliana, Ava, and Luke Bond and Aubrey, Taylor, and Weston Trevino. He is also survived by his brothers Edward Trevino of Ponce Inlet FL William Trevino of Edinburg TX, David LeBrock and Steven Trevino both of San Juan Capistrano CA, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 am. Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Crossroads Community Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society.
