Obituary of Katy Kaufman

Katherine Amber DeVault Kaufman, 44, of Centennial, passed away on February 1, 2024. She left peacefully, surrounded by her family at home.

Katy was born on July 5, 1979 to Kenneth DeVault and Debra Mitchell in Dallas, TX. She graduated from Wasson High School in 1997 and received her Bachelor’s degree in English literature from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 2001. Soon after, Katy began working at Hewlett Packard, where she met her beloved husband, Mark. She strongly believed in carving a path as a businesswoman and succeeded in doing so not just for herself, but worked unendingly for the women who came after her. She had a successful career spanning 20 years in web services including positions at NetApp and Amazon.

In 2005, Katy was married to Mark Kaufman in Manitou Springs, and they went on to have two children, Norah (15) and Sam (12). Their first few years together were enjoyed in Colorado Springs, before relocating to Chicago, IL. After several years of relishing the sights, sounds, and food of the Second City, Katy and Mark returned to Colorado, where they have been happily living in Centennial since 2015.

Katy had an incredible zest for life and lived hers to the fullest. She loved to watch the sunrise over a sandy beach, hit the slopes with her family, and pamper herself at the spa. She was steadfast in her encouragement of others and unwilling to say no to anyone. She freely gave her time, energy, and compassion to friends and family alike. A consummate host, Katy loved to entertain. Hers was always the house to be for holidays and events, but she was particularly fond of Thanksgiving. She went above and beyond each year. Most of all, Katy strove for excellence in her role as mother and wife. She was endlessly devoted to Mark and their two children.

Katy was predeceased by her father, Kenneth DeVault, and grandparents Elaine and Herschel DeVault and Doris and Thomas Petersen. She is survived by her husband Mark and their children, Norah and Sam. She is also survived by her mother, Debra Mitchell, two sisters, Anna Reinhart and Tessa DeVault, stepsister, Stephanie Jarrett, stepbrother, Jeff Eberl, and her stepmother, Beverly DeVault. She also leaves behind numerous friends, colleagues, and relatives whom she has touched during her life. Katy was the shining star in the lives of many and will be greatly missed by all.

A memorial service will be held at Joy Lutheran Church in Parker, CO on Tuesday, February 6th at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Gathering Place (tgpdenver.org), a non-profit organization helping women and children get back on their feet to which Katy often supported.
