Obituary of Elaine Nethercot

Mrs. Elaine A. Nethercot, wife of retired Colonel Hubert S. Nethercot, mother and grandmother, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on February 15, 2024, in Jonesboro AR.  She was 88 years old.  She leaves behind her daughter, Michelle (Clearwater FL), son Bert and wife Mindy (Parker CO), son Mark and wife Michelle “Shelly” (Jonesboro AR) grandsons: Logan (Aurora CO), Luke (Jonesboro AR.), Michael (Parker Colo.), and granddaughter Jenna (Parker CO).

Elaine was born in Lyons Kansas on July 13, 1935 to Minnie (Schmidt) and George Fortna.  She worked for the Office of the President at Kansas State in Manhattan KS where she met the love of her life, Hubert “Hubie” Nethercot.  They married and Elaine followed and supported Hubert during his career in the Air Force.  Elaine was an Officers Wife, served on the Officers Wives Club, and traveled the world with her love Hubert and their children.

During their years in the Air Force, Elaine and Hubert traveled to Wright Patterson OH, Maxwell AFB Alabama, Zaragoza Spain, Omaha NE, Whiteman AFB MO, Grand Forks ND, and Colorado Springs, CO.  After retirement she and Hubert moved to Parker CO, Canon City CO, and Jonesboro AR.

After they retired, she traveled to England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland with her husband, sister (Barbara Wixson) and daughter Michelle.  Elaine made good and long-lasting friends wherever she went.

She and Hubert were snowbirds in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas for 18 winters.  They returned full-time to Colorado Springs, CO until moving to Parker CO where they lived in Morning Star Senior Living Center.  They moved to Canon City in 2021.  After Hubert passed away Elaine moved to Jonesboro AR which became her final home.

Elaine established the Ladies Auxiliary for the Fraternal Order of Knights of Columbus Council #12228 in Colorado Springs, CO.  Elaine was a member of “Our Ladies of the Lord” bible study in Colorado Springs.

Elaine loved her children and grandchildren and was happiest when she was with them or attending their games and events. She loved going to watch her sons’ ball games and attended events at the Colorado Springs Police Department with her daughter Michelle.  She enjoyed going to the Casinos where she played the slots and Penny machines. She played a mean game of Canasta, Hand and Foot, and had recently taken up playing Bridge.

She was very much loved by all and will be greatly missed.
